2008 Marks the 175th Anniversary of the foundation of Jaeger-LeCoultre, one of the last remaining fully integrated watch manufactures in Switzerland. They have been making some of the finest of watches since 1833 and form 2004, Jaeger-Lecoultre have been associated with Aston Martin, the same way that Breitling is associated with Bentley, or panerai with Ferrari.
The latest model from the collabora¬tion is the Jaeger-LeCoultre AMVOX2 DES Transponder, the first watch developed with the ability to control access to a luxury sports car. The watch, which will be showcased on the eve of the Paris Motor Show is crafted exclusively for owners of the Aston Martin DES, and it takes the association between watch and car a step further. By integrating the transponder circuit into the body of the watch, Jaeger-LeCoultre has created a timepiece that not only functions as a chronograph but also as a key, making it the ultimate accessory for the ultimate sports car.
The case and dial are highly de¬tailed, featuring a suspended metallic grey DES symbol, a discrete Aston Martin emblem on the movement operating indicator and ruthenium grey bridges, satin finish and a black dial that are supposed to evoke the DBS’s instrument panel. The outer dial ring also has an opening that reveals the internal mechanisms of the chrono¬graph and transponder functions, an allusion to the exposed brake callipers visible behind the sporting wheel rims.
The AMVOX2 DES Transponder incorporates a miniature transmitter system serving to lock and unlock the Aston Martin DES. As the driver nears the car, all he need do is press the OPEN position oil the watch glass (between 8 and 9 o’clock) and he can slip behind the wheel.
Tile watch features several design characteristics that are shared with Aston Martin cars from the distinctive 270-decree sweep of the black dial that resembles dashboard counters. to the Luminescent numerals and white dials evoke tine DES interior at night.
