Tata Indigo Marina India
Though the least popular of Tata's passenger car trio in sales terms, the Indigo Marina is arguably the best of the bunch. Vehicle dynamics are better than its siblings, especially ride, and the Marina is the most refined of the lot. Even on the styling front we prefer the Marina to that of the Indigo saloon with the rakish sports estate profile working better than the tacked-on addendum of the saloon's boot. Though the boot volume is not bigger than that of the Indigo's, flexibility is greater and the possibility exists to stack items up to the roof (at the cost of rear visibility, of course). Performance is similar to that of the saloon, with driveability of the turbodiesel leaving a lot to be desired thanks to the pronounced turbo lag. But fuel efficiency is reasonable and running costs are low and at the end of the day the Marina is perhaps a more sensible buy than many other cars in the same segment. Sadly we Indians have not yet learnt to appreciate station wagons.
