There was a time in the mid-'90s when the Sumo ruled Indian roads. But with newer and more modern rivals its glory started to fade and its breadbox design no longer appealed. But Tata have still kept it going with many engine, and minor exterior and interior upgrades. The current range, fitted with a new three-litre turbocharged DI engine, delivers improved fuel economy and higher power and torque. But its looks and quality fall far short of the competition. It offers good value, though.
